Mont Saint Michel I French Pillow Cushion
|Origin||Woven in France|
|Dimensions||0.15 x 18.00 x 18.00 IN|
Mont Saint Michel I is a French woven jacquard tapestry panel. This piece portrays the Mont Saint-Michel island commune in Normandy, France located approximately one kilometer off the country's northwestern coast. The island has held strategic fortifications since ancient times, and has been the seat of the monastery from which it draws its name since the eighth century AD. The composition of the town exemplifies the structure of feudal society: on top, God, the abbey and monastery; below this, the great halls; then stores and housing; and at the bottom, outside the walls, fishermen's and farmers' housing. This panel is a companion to several others depicting French Heritage Landmarks: #5463 Notre Dame, #5464 Arc De Triomphe, #5465, Chenonceau, #5467 Chambord, #5468 Cheverny, and #5462 Tour Eiffel.
